Skippy's Birthday

Yesterday was Skip's birthday! He is now officially 68 years young! I asked him what he wanted for his birthday yesterday morning and he said fair winds and a good sail. Well he got that.
We left Frankfort, turned North and headed for Charlevoix. Just before we crossed Grand Traverse Bay we hoisted the sails. We were motoring at 6 knots. With the sail we hit 7. The sun was out and the puffy clouds made the sky so beautiful.
When you enter the harbor and head to Round Lake (before entering Lake Charlevoix) there is a bridge that has to be raised before you can proceed. And it rises on the half hour. We heard on the radio that the Beaver Island Ferry was coming out and we knew we needed to be out of her way. I was trying not to get to the bridge to quickly but I forgot about the current in the canal.
So here comes the ferry and we are sideways in the canal. The ferry captain is blowing his horn like crazy. At this point, Skip is at the helm and I'm trying to get the dinghy out of the way! Full power... and finally we are out of the way. But just barely! A close encounter with the ferry boat. Sure don't want to do that again.
We got  settled at the Charlevoix Marina and Skip's sister, Karen and her husband joined us for the evening. They are on their way to Bessmer for the annual July 4th festivities.
We had a lovely dinner at The Oyster Bar followed by a drink at the Weathervane.
Now it's Friday morning and Karen and Byron are on their way North. We sure had a nice visit with them. And Skip had a great birthday!
Today we leave the marina and anchor out for a day or two.
I've attached a couple of pictures of Matt's boat. I forgot them with the Frankfort post. They're kinda dark but Matt, maybe you can use them anyway.
Love and blessings,
Margo and Skip
